The Story

The carpet industry in Nepal is at a major crossroads: it must adapt if it is to sustainably grow into the next generation. Globalization, technology and growing demands in specialized custom rugs have all brought major changes to the industry. Clients now require a transparent dialogue with its manufacturers; they expect quality control and oversight in production and they demand their expectations to be met.

Khantze understands your needs. Our company is founded on the principle of building an effective partnership with clients who are familiar with the challenges facing the Nepalese carpet industry. Bringing together over 35 years of experience as a manufacturer and exporter in Kathmandu along with five years of working as a consultant at a top tier global consulting firm based out of New York, Khantze can effectively navigate both the business and cultural challenges of working in Nepal.

Our Founding Team

  • Tsultrim Lama

Tsultrim is Khantze’s founding father. In 1981, Tsultrim established Swayambhu Carpet Industries as one of the first carpet manufacturers in Nepal to export rugs to North America and Europe. Tsultrim brings a wealth of knowledge in the intricacies of weaving handmade rugs. His years of experience and passion for carpets have instilled in him the strong understanding of colour. In particular, he has the ability to translate vibrant designs and colors from computer-rendered designs to the actual finished carpet.

  • Samten Dorje

Before joining Khantze, Samten worked for five years in the Assurance practice at PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP as a trusted business advisor to both private and publicly listed companies. Samten advised senior executives on strategic issues and led operational improvements. He received Excellence awards two years in a row during his time at PwC in recognition of his strong commitment to clients.

Having worked in New York, Sydney and Toronto, Samten has developed strong cross-cultural communication skills. He is looking forward to bringing exciting change to Khantze including the development of management to focus on customer needs and improving business processes.
